THE AIM

Having my own blog works as an advantage in this project to a certain extent. I may know a thing or two about content, writing, and layouts but to further extend my knowledge I wanted to do a little more research.

Since I am doing a fashion magazine aimed towards young women I wanted to study key features that these magazines obtain to draw the attention of the reader even further than just the cover page. I began googling  "fashion magazine representation" and "young women and fashion magazines." A variety of helpful and informative articles popped up and I began writing down important notes.

Fashion Magazine - Genre and Representations
- Fashion magazines are mainly aimed towards female audiences.
- Images used within these magazines are shown in a more respectable manner, this is used to inspire the women reading them.
- On the cover page of fashion magazines, the majority of the cover lines talk about ways to improve your image.
- This is used so women can buy the magazine and attempt to make themselves look like the model on the cover page however, these models are usually edited to make them look more airbrushed and slimmer.
- All in all, the female audience primarily buys fashion magazine as a way to feel inspired and motivated to be "better."
- They want to read about the newest styles to look chic when going out, they want to know the newest diets to lose weight quickly, they want to learn the best beauty secrets to reduce wrinkles and fine lines in their older years, etc.

20 Types of Fashion Styles
- Although fashion is one genre, within fashion there are hundreds of styles, that appeal to hundreds of different women.
- Casual: Women who dress casually don't dress in the newest, most exotic, bold trends. Their look is very minimalistic and subtle. Comfort is the main characteristic their looking for in their clothing.
- Exotic: Although this style is very rare, I admire those who work it. Women with this aesthetic wear bold, eye-catching, never-before-seen, pieces. They contain vibrant prints and standout jewelry.
- Grunge: This happens to be one of my favorites. A grungy look contains very neutral pieces, black, white, beige, army green, grey, burgundy, etc. It is very edgy and modern, they get simple pieces that can be dressed up.
- Preppy: I believe we all went through this phase in middle school... This style usually contains very coordinated and put together pieces. The colors are matching or are along the same color palette. You will never find a button unbuttoned or a piece of jewelry out of place. This look is very feminine.
